Research Scientist

We currently have a vacancy as Research Scientist at the Research and Technology Development (RTD) unit at Karmøy, part of Commercial Technology in Hydro’s business area Primary Metal. We are looking for an accurate and extroverted professional, who enjoys combining technical knowledge with customer contact in a collaborative setting.

Area of Responsibility

RTD Karmøy performs lab investigations and technical support on extrusion ingots (EI) and wire rod to market teams in Customer Technical Support (CTS), and serve production units at the Karmøy plant with product control/-investigations. Other business units in Hydro utilize our analytic capabilities as well.

A well-equipped lab facility supports the research activities, consisting of specialized Material testing, Metallographic, SEM and Surface testing labs (corrosion/surface treatment/brazing). We work in close co-operation with the Sunndal R&D facility.

As our Research Scientist, you will be a substantial contributor to these deliveries. You will primarily follow up issues for CTS Extrusion Ingot. In addition, you will collaborate with EI market teams, with Hydro casthouses for specific cases and contribute to R&D project work.

These are some of your tasks:

• Plan and initiate lab surveys
• Elaborate technical reports based on lab results, case info and your metallurgical competence
• Collaborate closely with colleagues in the laboratory
• Extensive contact with internal customers
• Visit end-customers, contributing to audits and trainings
• Contribute to continuous improvements

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or PhD in materials/metallurgy
• Experience from aluminium casthouse or extrusion plant is preferred, but recent graduates in relevant fields can also apply
• Ability to use English and Norwegian as your working language, both verbal and written
• Other language skills will be considered an advantage, such as Spanish, French or German

Additional Information

You will report to the Head of Laboratory in Karmøy, and be part of a unit of almost 20 professionals, in a knowledgeable and good working environment.
