The ship intelligence era brings us to an age where ships are integrated into larger operations. Owners and operators will expect to have total awareness and control in this area to optimize asset utilization, and ultimately, their wider operations.
We are pushing the boundaries of ship technology by harnessing the power of data in order to deliver through life asset optimization. Our model to sense, acquire, transfer, analyse and act (SATAA) applies to both onboard and onshore elements.
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Intelligent Asset Management (IAM) team (Ship Intelligence) as a Data Engineer for our Equipment Health Management team.
Accountabilities
- Design and build data pipelines as part of the multidisciplinary team
- Ability for build and operation of "big data" infrastructures, such as Cloud based Hadoop clusters.
- Understand and communicate the pros and cons of different technologies and approaches.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to propose and deploy new cloud or physical on-premises systems required for Hadoop and related environments
- Take an active part in an Agile delivery team.
Qualifications
- Degree in computer science or similar discipline. Relevant work experience may compensate.
- While you may not have an exclusively agile background, you will believe in these Lean principles.
- Technical solutions experience and a combination of relevant Big Data/ Cloud Analytics areas including:
- Hadoop (MapReduce, Spark) and other Industry Big Data Frameworks, including using NoSQL databases
- Underlying infrastructure for Big Data Solutions (Clustered/Distributed Computing, Storage, Data Centre Networking)
- Predictive analytics
- Data Visualization
- Dealing with structured and unstructured data
Technical skills
- Detailed knowledge of Hadoop ecosystem from an administration perspective, ideally including Spark and HBase
- Good knowledge of Hive, good knowledge of SQL
- Knowledge of Linux.
- Broad understanding of physical infrastructure, servers, storage and networks.
- A good knowledge of Python or Java
