Opera is a privately owned consumer Internet company headquartered in Oslo with more than 350 million monthly users across its portfolio of software applications. We are a lean company of 400 people with major offices in Poland, China and Sweden, as well as a presence in 15 additional countries. Opera spun out of its parent company in November 2016. So, while Opera has a 20+ year history, it is under new ownership now and in many ways a new company.

Opera is a multi-national and multi-cultural company with big ambitions for the future. We are in the midst of an expansion of operations in Africa and we are pursuing several new initiatives related to digital content discovery, e-commerce and the facilitation of mobile payments. We are therefore looking for a Financial Controller that will focus on these new initiatives.

Reporting to:                Senior Director Finance

Location:                      Oslo, Norway

 

Qualifications:
We are looking for a talented and driven individual with a bachelor in finance or accounting and + 2 years of experience from accounting, preferably as a financial controller. Opera will go live with the future of accounting systems, Workday, a true cloud based Financial Management system in 2018. The Financial Controller will play an important role in this exiting journey. Our future Financial Controller will have a diverse range of tasks and responsibilities – including:

 

  • Take a proactive roll in our international expansion
  • Establish and maintain relationships with global financial service providers and banks
  • Ensure proper revenue and cost controlling
  • Manage finance related transactions with involved internal and external parties
  • Provide support for intercompany sales/transfer prices
  • Responsible for performing all month-end close procedures and preparing monthly financial results
  • Monitor working capital needs for portions of the business
  • Responsible for all intercompany agreements, and make sure that they are all in place
  • Support service providers with month-end and year-end close process
  • Review and upload of monthly reporting packages into Workday
  • Ensure that financial reports comply with current accounting principles and financial reporting standards
  • Work with service providers to ensure they comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Review of VAT returns
  • Payment/approval of vendor invoices
  • Mapping and maintaining the chart of accounts
  • Conduct ad-hoc financial analyses related to the business
