Akvaplan-niva AS announces a 2-year post.doc. position connected to the project "Source-Exposure Relationships for Airborne Organic Contaminants of Emerging Concern in Northern Terrestrial and Freshwater Ecosystems ". The position is based in Tromsø and start-up is as soon as possible. The project the position is linked to is funded by the Norwegian Research Council, led by the Norwegian Institute for Air Research (NILU), and is a collaboration between a number of national and international research institutes. The successful candidate will collaborate with other researchers in the project team, but work especially close with researchers from Akvaplan-niva and NILU.

The project

There is both scientific and regulatory interest in identifying chemical substances, which may represent a risk for environmental and human health in northern areas. Some chemical substances have potential for long-range environmental transport to remote areas, such as the Arctic. Although many substances are recognized and regulated as so-called persistent organic pollutants (POPs), there are indications that the number of POPs exceeds those identified to date. In this project, we aim to study relationships between sources of various airborne organic contaminants of emerging concern (AOCs) and their occurrence in northern air as well as terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems. The project will combine field studies with mechanistic modelling to assess the overall understanding as well as to identify critical knowledge gaps.

The Post. Doc. Position

The Post.Doc. will be central in planning and implementation of field work, in preparation and analysis of samples, as well as in data treatment and publication writing. Fieldwork in several parts of Norway can be expected and short- to medium-lasting stays at collaborating institutes may be arranged.
