Call for Postdoctoral Fellow in Cardiac Modeling

We are searching for candidates for a 2 year postdoctoral position in cardiovascular modeling at Simula Research Laboratory, Norway. The position is a part of a large scale research program combining biophysical modeling, clinical expertise, and industrial innovation to translate advanced simulation and imaging techniques into novel clinical diagnostics.

Project Description
The successful candidate will enjoy an inspiring and resourceful environment, with the ability to engage with a broad range of relevant experts. The position also brings the possibility of travelling to conferences, visiting other national or international labs, and establishing new collaborations.  The overall goal of this project is to develop and apply patient-specific mechanical and electromechanical computational modeling frameworks for use in specific patient groups. This will require pushing the limits of modeling methods and cutting edge optimization technique to improve their diagnostic resolution and efficiency.

Research Environment
Simula Research Laboratory AS is a publicly owned research institution located at Fornebu, just outside the city center of Oslo, the capital of Norway. It is a multi-cultural organization, employing about 150 individuals from 30 countries. Simula is conducting ICT research in the fields of communication technology, scientific computing and software engineering. The main objective is to generate new understanding and create vital knowledge about fundamental scientific challenges that are of genuine value for society. This is achieved through high quality research, education of graduate students, industry collaboration, technology transfer and commercialization.

Since 2001, scientific evaluations conducted by the Research Council of Norway has repeatedly placed Simula at the forefront of international research in ICT. The most recent in-depth evaluation was published earlier this year, grading all research groups at Simula as excellent.

This position will be a part of Simula’s efforts in the Center for Cardiological Innovation (CCI), an 8 year project Centre for Research Based Innovation, which combines Simula’s scientific computing expertise with cardiologists at Oslo University Hospital, and industry leaders GE Healthcare, and Medtronic. Within this project the successful candidate will work within a collaborative team that includes physicians and industrial representatives, as well as domain experts within scientific computing.

Simula Offers
• A highly dynamic and motivated team of international researchers and engineers.
• A well-established collaboration with applied research teams and companies.
• Full support in acquiring third-party funding.
• Offices are a 15-minute drive or short boat trip from the centre of Oslo.
• An informal and inclusive international working environment.
• Professional courses and workshops led by international experts.
• A competitive salary.

Application Requirements
Post-docs candidates with an interest in cardiac mechanics /electromechanics, finite elements, medical image analysis, and optimization techniques are all encouraged to apply. Interested applicants should provide a CV, a brief statement of research interests, and contact information for two references.
The starting date is at the earliest convenience (negotiable). Application deadline: December 31, 2017. However, applications will be screened continuously and a decision will be made as soon as we have found the right candidate.
Simula strives to achieve a good balance between male and female employees, and women are particularly encouraged to apply.
