ECCSEL ERIC is a permanent, distributed, and integrated European research infrastructure, providing a single-point open-access gateway to more than 155 world-class research facilities across Europe. These facilities span the full CCUS and CDR value chain and—following a recent extension of scope—now also include subsurface low carbon energy storage (such as hydrogen, heat, and compressed air), CO₂ storage as a feedstock, and geothermal energy. ECCSEL supports research and innovation activities from TRL 1 to TRL 7, serving academia, research organisations, industry, and public authorities alike. The mission of ECCSEL ERIC is to enhance European science, technology development, and innovation by providing coordinated, efficient, and open transnational access to critical research infrastructure. ECCSEL also serves as a structured knowledge-sharing platform, strengthening collaboration across Europe and enhancing the participation and success of its Partner Research Institutes in EU Horizon programmes through strategic coordination, facilitation, and targeted promotion. ECCSEL ERIC plays a key role in supporting national energy and climate strategies and contributes directly to the implementation of the EU Industrial Carbon Management Strategy. Our vision is to enable net-zero CO₂ emissions from industry, power generation, and the atmosphere, recognising that achieving net zero requires the combined and accelerated deployment of CCUS, CDR, subsurface energy storage, and geothermal energy.
