You can now be part of the Market Intelligence (MI) department in Hydro Energy Markets.
Hydro Energy has more than 100 years of experience in the production of renewable energy. Today, we are one of the three largest operators of hydropower production in Norway and a large power market player in the Nordic region and Brazil. We are responsible for developing new business opportunities and providing support to Hydro's business areas on contracts, security of supply, and energy framework conditions. Energy Markets is responsible for maximizing the value of Hydro's energy portfolio and its management for our aluminum activities.
Market Intelligence in Hydro's Energy Markets center of competence and innovation in power market analysis, asset optimization and trading support. We deliver cutting-edge insight and custom solutions quickly to capitalize from changes in the market or technology landscape. We actively support decisions of those planning power production, trading on European markets and sourcing energy. We deliver Nordic power price prognosis up to 5-10 years ahead, follow market developments and trends, and manage a portfolio of models, and decision-support tools.

What you will be doing
The MI team delivers short- to medium-term analysis and digital solutions supporting Hydro's power market activities in Europe. As our responsibilities are dynamic and evolve over time, we are looking for candidates who are adaptable and eager to contribute to various aspects of our operations.We are looking for a Power Market / Data Scientist focused on analysis to join our team of 15 highly skilled professionals, to cover the following deliveries:
Join our daily operational duties producing short-term power price forecasts (specifically for NO2 & NO5) and presenting them to Market Operations and Trading, alongside key weather and market drivers
Develop and improve the interaction between price forecasts and stochastic hydropower modelling (e.g. Prodrisk)
Engage with our power portfolio modelling to manage exposure and risk in the short term and several years ahead
Contribute to discussions and analyses with relevant subject matter knowledge within weather, hydrology, hydropower, power grid, etc.
MI's Power Market / Data Scientists all work at the intersection of market analysis and development and:
Collect and analyze data, conduct market research, and forecast to assess current and future technologies, regulations and trends
Run existing and develop new quantitative models (both fundamental and statistical) to support decision-making and trading strategies in European Energy Markets
Perform short- and medium-term analysis for the Nordic and German power markets
Work with digital solutions, automation, data handling, management, and infrastructure
Use machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) for model and application development
Assist other departments in energy-related adhoc analysis and projects, e.g. investment decisions in new hydropower projects
Present to internal stakeholders (e.g. Hydro Energy's Management Group or Hydro's Executive Leadership Team)
Collaborate with internal strategic stakeholders (e.g. IT), external model developers, R&D partners, and service and data suppliers
What will make you successful?
To thrive and succeed in this role, we believe the right candidate has the following qualifications:
A Master's degree in economics, mathematics, statistics, optimization, computer science, engineering, or a related field
3-5 years relevant experience from the power industry and electricity markets
Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with solid programming competency in Python
Experience with short and medium-term power market models
A proven track record in using various tools for data handling, management, and analytics
Experience working in cross‑functional and ‑cultural environments
Fluency in English, written and spoken; Norwegian proficiency is an advantage
