Vessel Manager at REV Ocean
The role
We are looking for an experienced and highly organised Vessel Manager to serve as the operational hub between REV Ocean and our vessel management partner.
As Vessel Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the vessel—coordinating missions, port calls, logistics, crew, and compliance, and ensuring that operational performance consistently meets REV Ocean's high standards.
You will bridge the management company structure and REV Ocean's mission priorities, acting as the primary point of contact between the two organisations for all non-technical operational matters.
You will work in close coordination with the Vessel Operations Director and will lead a team that includes Captains and vessel team members.
This is a role for someone who thrives on complexity, takes pride in operational excellence, and is motivated by a mission that matters.
Safety and Compliance
Monitor the implementation of the Safety Management System and review HSEQ performance
Ensure compliance with all applicable maritime regulations and safety protocols
Assist in developing and maintaining vessel-specific procedures and checklists, ensuring the vessel is operationally ready
Participate in emergency response as part of the Emergency Response Team
Operational Efficiency
Keep the Vessel Operations Director informed of all matters affecting performance, cost, or delivery
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency
Ensure OPEX remains within budget and proactively escalate variances
Work closely with other departments on mission planning, permitting, and events
Work closely with onboard crew and onshore partners to ensure REV Ocean delivers world-class experiences for the vessel’s users.
Logistics Coordination
Plan and coordinate the vessel schedule—missions, port calls, and maintenance periods
Ensure all permits, crew travel, and mission logistics are in place ahead of each departure
Act as the primary point of contact between REV Ocean and Solstad for non-technical operational matters
Administrative Support
Maintain accurate records, logs, and compliance documentation
Prepare and distribute operational reports and stakeholder communications
Monitor vessel OPEX together with the Technical Superintendent and support budget management
Crew Support
Lead the vessel team on a day-to-day basis—providing direction, oversight, and appraisals for Captains
Liaise with the Crew Coordinator on training, development, and crewing matters
Qualifications
Background in vessel operations, maritime management, or a related field
Working knowledge of ISM, ISPS, MLC, and other international maritime regulations
Experience managing logistics, OPEX, and cross-organisational coordination
Fluent in English; Norwegian is an advantage
Personal Attributes
Structured and proactive—you stay ahead of challenges and follow through on every detail
Calm under pressure, with sound judgment in complex, fast-moving situations
Strong communicator who builds trust across teams and organisational boundaries
Motivated by REV Ocean’s mission to protect and restore the ocean
Used to working in an international environment
Flexible and adaptable with an open mindset
We Offer
Opportunity to work with highly skilled colleagues in an innovative environment creating real impact
Opportunities for growth and development, with access to learning resources
A diverse, inclusive, and internationally minded working environment
Open and friendly company culture
Flat structure with direct access to decision-makers
Competitive salary and benefits (including pension, insurance, healthcare, and more)
Access to an outstanding private medical clinic, free staffed gym, and modern office facilities
Subsidised lunch
All the tools you need to be productive

Om arbeidsgiveren
REV Ocean is a scientific platform dedicated to protecting and restoring the ocean. At 195 metres, it is one of the world's largest privately owned research and exploration vessels - built to host scientists, policymakers and innovators onboard, turning evidence into real-world decisions. Our work is anchored in marine protected areas, and extends to marine plastic pollution, training the next generation of ocean scientists, and ocean literacy for decision-makers. Science only changes things when it reaches the people who make decisions. We close that gap at sea - for one healthy ocean.
Founded in Oslo, Norway in 2017, we are a team of 65 ocean experts, crew and international executives. Learn more at revocean.org
