Central leadership role in the FIS Alpine World Championships 2029
We are seeking a highly experienced and internationally oriented Assistant Sport Director for a key leadership role in planning and delivering the sporting aspects of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2029 in Narvik.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of a championship at the highest international level – from early planning, through the World Cup events in 2027 and 2028, to the execution of the championship itself.
Working closely with the Sport Director, you will share responsibility for building, structuring, and leading the sports organization and ensuring delivery in line with FIS requirements and best practices from international championships.
Key ResponsibilitiesContribute to the development and implementation of the overall sports delivery model for Narvik 2029
Build and structure the sports organization, including recruitment of key personnel and international resources
Lead planning of staffing and resource allocation, including integration of a large volunteer workforce
Act as a central link between competition execution, venue/logistics, and key stakeholders (FIS, national federations, officials)
Play a key role in planning and delivering the World Cup events in 2027 and 2028
Contribute to operational planning and execution of competition venues, including logistics, setup, and operational concepts
Support the Race Director and FIS jury in sporting assessments and decision-making
Prepare documentation, planning frameworks, and reporting
Develop and implement contingency and risk management plans
Solid experience in alpine skiing at the highest level (FIS, World Cup, World Championships, or Olympic Games)
A relevant and active network within national and international alpine skiing
Excellent English skills, both written and spoken; proficiency in German is an advantage.

The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships is one of the world’s largest winter sports events – and the biggest sporting event in Norway since the Lillehammer Olympic Games in 1994.
In February 2029, Norway will host the Alpine World Championships on home soil for the first time, with Narvik as the host city.
On the road to the championship, we will also organize the Women’s Alpine World Cup in March 2027, as well as the World Cup Finals for both women and men in March/April 2028.
Narvik VM 2029 AS is the event company behind the championship. The company is owned by Narvikfjellet Allmenn AS and the Norwegian Ski Federation.
The organization currently consists of six employees and will grow in the coming years into a strong and professional organization in close collaboration with local and national stakeholders.
Narvik 2029 is responsible for delivering the event and will host a world-class championship with lasting positive impacts for the entire country and Norwegian alpine skiing.
