DevOps/Platform Engineer
Gexcon AS

Do you want to take ownership of our SaaS platform?
Over the last 12 months we have built our new web and API platform from scratch. This platform will be the delivery mechanism for a wide range of products that we will launch.
We're now hiring our first dedicated DevOps / Platform Engineer to take ownership of this platform that delivers Gexcon's science and domain knowledge to high-profile customers all over the world. This is a high-trust, high-scope role where you will not only ensure the platform's reliability and evolution but also set the standards for our future cloud service operations, offering a unique opportunity to influence and lead.
The platform runs on Kubernetes, deployed across Proxmox and managed with ArgoCD and Terraform. Around it sits a self-hosted GitLab for CI/CD, an Elastic/Kibana observability stack, and a growing security toolchain. There's a clear backlog of meaningful work and plenty of room to shape how things are done.
You'll report directly to the CTO and work closely with the development teams building on top of the platform.
What you'll do
Operate and evolve our Kubernetes-based SaaS platform (Rancher, ArgoCD, Proxmox, Terraform), keeping it reliable, secure, and cost-effective
Own and improve our GitLab CI/CD pipelines — making them faster, safer, and easier for developers to use
Build out our application security posture: SCA scanning, dependency and container image hygiene, threat modelling, and vulnerability management with tools like Nessus
Own observability end-to-end in Elastic/Kibana — logs, metrics, dashboards, and alerts that actually help us catch and diagnose issues
Contribute code where it makes sense — automation, tooling, the occasional service fix, or improvements to internal developer experience
Help define and document how we want to run cloud services as the platform grows
Work in close collaboration with the teams developing the software that runs on this platform
And much, much more :-)
What we're looking for
We care more about how you think than how many years you've worked. We're open to candidates ranging from recent graduates with strong fundamentals and a hands-on portfolio, through to seniors who've run production platforms at scale.
Solid candidates will bring some combination of:
A genuine interest in infrastructure, automation, and how distributed systems fail
Familiarity with Linux, containers, and at least one major orchestration or IaC tool (Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, Docker — you don't need all of them)
Comfort writing scripts and small services in whatever language fits the job — Bash, Python, or something else
An understanding that security and observability are part of building, not afterthoughts
Clear written communication — you'll be documenting decisions and writing runbooks others rely on
For senior candidates, we'd additionally expect production experience operating a Kubernetes-based platform, and the judgment to know when to build, when to buy, and when to keep things boring.
On using AI
We expect you to be fluent with AI coding and reasoning tools (Claude, Copilot, and similar) and to use them actively in your day-to-day work — for writing scripts, debugging, drafting documentation, reviewing configurations, and accelerating research. We're not looking for novelty; we're looking for someone who treats these tools as part of a modern engineer's toolkit and has good instincts for when to trust them and when to verify.
What we offer
The chance to be the founding engineer for a platform that's central to our SaaS strategy — real ownership, real impact
A small, technical company where decisions happen quickly and good ideas get tried
Direct access to leadership and a flat structure (you'll work directly with the CTO)
A modern toolchain we're actively investing in
Competitive compensation and Norwegian benefits
An office in Bergen with colleagues who care about what they build
