Senior Product Manager Newsroom AI Transformation
We’re rethinking newsroom processes and tooling — and we’re looking for someone to lead the transformation.
At Schibsted Media, we are entering a new and ambitious phase in how our newsrooms work. Through what we call Newsroom Transformation, we’re combining AI, technology and product thinking to improve how journalism is planned, discovered, created, distributed and evaluated.
Over the past few years, we’ve explored, tested and built new tools and workflows across our media brands — from content discovery and planning to production and distribution. Now, we wanna scale what works and move from experimentation and one offs to lasting impact.
To lead this shift, we’re hiring a Product Manager for Newsroom AI Transformation. This is a new strategic role with a long-term horizon, and a mandate that spans across central product teams and our media brands and newsrooms.
The role and mission
You will play a key role in shaping how AI and technology support journalists and editors across Schibsted Media. This is a unique opportunity to define the future of newsroom tooling at scale — balancing long-term direction with hands-on product development.
This is not just about building new tools. It’s about transforming workflows, unlocking efficiency, and enabling better journalism.
This role will help define and drive our shared ambition for newsroom tooling and AI enablement across Schibsted Media. The goal is clear priorities and measurable impact over time — combined with the ability to pivot quickly as technology, behaviour and opportunities evolve.
We see this as a multi-year transformation that will reshape how our newsrooms work.
You’ll work across teams and brands to:
Turn insights into clear priorities and product direction
Ensure we solve real problems in editorial workflows
Scale successful initiatives into robust, long-term products
Continuously adapt as technology and user needs evolve
Key responsibilities
1. From insight to long-term direction
-Build on existing research and project learnings across brands.
-Help define and refine a shared ambition and concrete targets for newsroom efficiency.
-Translate strategic intent into a clear product direction for 2026, 2027 and 2028.
2. Deeply understand the Jobs To Be Done
-Lead structured discovery work with editorial teams.
-Move beyond surface-level needs to uncover deeper workflows, pain points and unrealised opportunities.
-Ensure we design solutions that truly improve how journalism is done – not just add new tools.
3. From projects to scalable products
-Identify which initiatives should become long-term product investments - scaled to multiple brands.
-Establish ownership, governance and operating models.
-Work closely with engineering, design, data and editorial stakeholders to build robust, scalable solutions.
-Not only focus on the new, but build on what we have and define ownership and operation (e.g. audio transcription, video production, writing articles, discover news)
4. Organisational design and collaboration
-Clarify what should live centrally in Product, and what should happen close to brand in editorial or brand teams.
-Help define collaboration models between central product teams and brand organisations.
-Contribute to capability building in AI and workflow transformation across the organisation.
5. Measurable impact
-Define success metrics for newsroom efficiency and AI enablement.
-Ensure we measure real impact on productivity, quality and learning.
-Continuously adjust direction based on outcomes and insight.
Who you are
You’re an experienced product manager who thrives in complex environments and enjoys driving change across teams and disciplines.
This role requires:
7-10 years of product management experience, including responsibility for complex, cross-functional product areas.
Experience operating in organisations with multiple teams where you have led through leaders (e.g. EMs, PMs, head of product, newsroom leaders etc).
Proven track record of leading large-scale product initiatives with measurable impact
Ability to operate both strategically (multi-year horizon) and hands-on (discovery, prioritisation, stakeholder work).
Demonstrated ability to define and execute product strategies.
Proven ability to create clarity and prioritisation in ambiguous situations
The ability to balance brand-specific needs with shared, scalable solutions.
We are looking for a change agent with a proven transformation track record.
Strong stakeholder management skills with senior editorial, product and technology leaders
Comfort navigating organisational complexity.
A genuine curiosity and deep competence about AI and how it can transform our editorial processes and tools.
Fluency in Norwegian or Swedish, enabling you to work closely with editorial teams and fully understand the language our journalism is produced in.
You should also have:
Experience working closely with editorial environments or content workflows.
Experience with translating insight and research into shipped product outcomes.
Experience with AI-enabled products, automation, or workflow tooling
Track record of defining KPIs and building measurement frameworks tied to real business or operational impact.
Experience from media or publishing
Why this matters
This is one of the most important strategic opportunities we have: to fundamentally improve how journalism is discovered, created, distributed and evaluated.
If we succeed, we will strengthen quality, speed, relevance and impact across all our media brands. We truly believe that we with this focus can free up capacity to focus more on the journalism and product experiences that makes our brands more unique.
This is an extremely important focus at a moment when traditional media is facing structural disruption. Areas that were once relatively protected are now intensely competitive — shaped by social platforms, the broader internet and now AI. To stay relevant and distinctive, we must rethink how we work and where we invest our energy.
If this sounds like something you’d like to be part of, we’d love to hear from you.
