Are you our new geriatrician?

Helse Fonna HF comprises four hospitals in Haugesund, Stord, Odda and Valen, as well as four district psychiatric centres (DPS). At Haugesund Hospital, we now want to strengthen our competence in Geriatric Medicine, and we currently have a full-time, permanent position available.
Haugesund Hospital is located in the town of Haugesund. The hospital plays an active role in the training pathway for our resident doctors (LIS) and is part of the regional network in Western Norway Regional Health Authority (Helse Vest).

Our geriatric ward has eight beds, in addition to the geriatric outpatient clinic, which is run in collaboration with the old age psychiatry outpatient clinic. We also have our own Research Group for Age Related Medicine with professorial expertise in Old Age Psychiatry with several ongoing clinical drug trials for different types of dementia.

In 2023, the unit had its accreditation renewed as a training institution for specialization in geriatric medicine.

As a geriatrician, you must have a holistic perspective and a desire to work closely with your colleagues from other professions. We are looking for a geriatrician who is interested in their own professional development.

Resident doctors (LIS 2/3) with a desire to specialize in geriatric medicine are also warmly welcome to apply.

What does the job involve?

• Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of inpatients and outpatients

What qualifications are important in this role?

• Norwegian specialist authorization in geriatric medicine, or LIS 3 in specialization.
• Relevant experience from hospital work.
• Good command of Norwegian is essential for safe patient care. Applicants whose first language is not Norwegian, Swedish or Danish, and who have not completed upper secondary education in Norwegian, must as a minimum have passed the Bergenstest or another Norwegian language test at B2 level. Documentation must be attached to the application. In the case of hiring an applicant who is already permanently employed in the trust, the B2 language requirement may, in special cases, be waived.
