NEC OncoImmunity AS is looking for a Software Engineer
Who are we?
NEC OncoImmunity AS is an artificial intelligence (AI) driven biotech company offering proprietary machine learning models and bioinformatics algorithms, which address the key gaps in the prediction of bona fide immunogenic antigens for personalized cancer immunotherapy and infectious disease vaccines.
We are dedicated to developing scalable software solutions that facilitate effective patient selection for truly personalized cancer immunotherapy in a clinically actionable time frame, as well as optimal antigens for broadly-protective and therapeutic viral vaccines.
Our growing international team (16 countries and counting!) consists of a diverse mix of data scientists, bioinformaticians, immunologists, cancer researchers, and software developers.
NEC OncoImmunity AS is a subsidiary of the NEC Corporation and is based in the Oslo Science Park (Forskningsparken) in Oslo, Norway.
To expand the software engineering capabilities of the ImmunoStructural Design (ISD) team at NEC OncoImmunity AS, we are looking for an enthusiastic, ambitious and outstanding Senior Software Engineer proficient in Python. The ISD team is an interdisciplinary team spanning Data Science, Scientific Research, Computational Science, and Machine Learning engineering. It specializes in identifying B-cell epitopes on target proteins and designing novel proteins exposing the given epitopes to trigger immune activation. Our primary goal is to develop and implement a cutting-edge de novo pipeline and AI models for this process.
We apply this innovative approach across a wide range of projects—including cancer, infectious diseases, and orphan diseases—working closely with internal and external collaborators to ensure impactful results.
Job description
In this role, you design, develop, and maintain scientific computational pipelines that are scalable, tested, and documented to a high level compatible with medical regulations.
As a Senior Software Engineer you will:
Architect and build high-performance computational pipelines that seamlessly integrate open-source tools with proprietary AI and machine learning models to tackle critical challenges in immunostructural design.
Write robust, reusable, and well-tested code, produce comprehensive documentation, and conduct code reviews to uphold the high standards of software quality and regulatory compliance.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to teammates, shape architectural decisions and drive technical excellence across the codebase.
Continuously enhance and refactor existing codebases, driving improvements in performance, scalability, and maintainability.
Collaborate across interdisciplinary teams, ensuring consistent engineering standards and maximizing the impact of our AI-powered solutions.
This is an opportunity to directly shape innovative AI-driven pipelines that accelerate research and drive impact across real-world biomedical applications.
Our stack includes:
ML & Data: TensorFlow, PyTorch, XGBoost, scikit-learn, Pandas, NumPy, Polars, Fireducks, DVC
Language & Pipelines: Python, Prefect, Nextflow
Platform & Infrastructure: GCP, GPUs, Prometheus, Grafana, Docker, Kubernetes
Your profile:
Located in Oslo area, Norway or Heidelberg area, Germany, or willing to relocate to one of them.
A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Extensive professional experience in Python, with a strong foundation in software engineering best practices.
Proven track record of designing and delivering high-quality, well-tested, scalable, and maintainable software systems
Deep experience with modern software development and lifecycle tooling, including Git and CI pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions or equivalent).
Strong hands-on experience with containerization technologies such as Docker.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, enabling clear technical and non-technical collaboration.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams, providing technical leadership, mentoring colleagues, and driving end-to-end project ownership.
Bonus:
AI & ML: experience with optimizing machine learning models with Tensorflow and Pytorch for efficient and high-performance computation.
Cloud & Infrastructure: experience architecting GPU-backed systems in cloud environments with a strong focus on reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency (with Google Cloud Platform, Azure, AWS, or similar).
Data & Pipelines: experience designing and maintaining scalable data pipelines, transforming large datasets into production-ready features and models.
Experience working within the biotech or bioinformatics industries.
