Reports to: Vessel Manager
Reporting to the position: Chief Officer, Chief Engineer, Chief Steward
Substitute: Chief Officer
Role Purpose
The Master is the ultimate authority on board charged with carrying out the Company policies, rules and regulations and complying with all applicable national and international laws and regulations. This authority is vested in the Master by the government of the Flag State.
Key Areas of responsibility
The Master's primary responsibility is the safety and welfare of all personnel, the vessel, and the environment, including oversight of the work boat assigned to the ship. The Master is also responsible for executing contracts and ensuring that the Company’s rights are protected.
Responsibility and accountability:
- Overall responsibility for the safety of personnel, vessel and environment
- Leadership of bridge team and Senior DPO duties
- Ensuring high standards of seamanship, discipline and housekeeping
- Overseeing crew training, development and performance
- Managing emergency preparedness and response
- Compliance with commercial contracts and charterer requirements
- Cost control, budgeting input and administrative reporting
- Ensuring all certifications, documentation and SMS requirements are met
Qualifications
- Valid certificate to serve as Master on the relevant vessel
- Required certificates and training in accordance with STCW, industry standards, and company training matrices
- Assessor training (certificate required for NIS)
- Solid experience from offshore operations is an advantage
