Who we are
Founded on the belief that a country’s natural resources belong to its citizens, the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) brings together governments, civil society, and companies to improve natural resource governance. With over 50 member countries and 60 supporting companies, the EITI promotes transparency, accountability and informed policymaking in the extractive sector.
Behind the small but ambitious and impactful organisation is a diverse and dynamic team of experts, ready to welcome you and support your learning as you navigate the EITI Standard and its global implementation. Based in Oslo, Norway, the EITI International Secretariat comprises a collaborative and multilingual team of around 50 professionals who value growth and development. Whether over a shared meal or an informal discussion, we believe in building strong relationships that help us work effectively together and inspire trust among our stakeholders.
The Data Officer will join us on a two-year contract, with the possibility of extension. The role sits within the International Secretariat’s Data Team and reports to the Data Manager. The position is available immediately.
Who you are
We are looking for a highly motivated, service-minded, systematic and detail-oriented data professional to help us deliver the EITI’s ambitious Data Strategy. The selected candidate will be a proactive and energetic colleague with a results-driven approach and a strong ability to work independently.
Our culture and decision-making are driven by our core values of integrity, professionalism and respect for diversity. The successful applicant will identify with, and demonstrate behaviours consistent with, these values. Personal suitability for the position, including alignment with the EITI values, will be a decisive factor in the selection process.
Duties and responsibilities
- Participation in the Data Team’s core work collecting and reviewing key EITI implementing country data, currently submitted through an Excel data template; including participation in early plans to automate data collection in future.
- Supporting Data Team colleagues in responding to ad hoc data research requests.
- Supporting stakeholders, such as multi-stakeholder groups, national secretariats, independent administrators, as well as other external data users, to access EITI data from structured and unstructured sources.
- Supporting the management and development of the Data Team’s dashboards, trackers and database, ensuring data is accessible to users.
- Participation in the Data Team’s work to catalyse the use of data published in accordance with the EITI Standard, including developing data analyses, visualisations and impact stories.
- Supporting the community of practice of EITI data users, by helping to organise virtual meetings on EITI data topics
Qualifications

- Experience in data management, processing and data analysis is required. This may include software and tools such as Microsoft Excel, VBA, SQL, Python and/or R, Power BI or Tableau. Experience in other software and tools will also be considered.
- A track record of at least two years in similar work is required. Previous direct or indirect experience with the EITI is not required but would be a significant advantage.
- Strong analytical and writing skills, particularly in English, are required.
- English is required and fluency in a working language used in any EITI implementing country is highly desirable (Spanish, French, Portuguese, Arabic or Russian).
- Experience in the extractive industries, public financial management, e-governance, or financial transparency is highly desirable.
- Experience of working in an international environment and with international partners is desirable. Experience working in resource-rich countries in Africa, Eurasia and Latin America would be a significant advantage.
