Stipendiat
PhD-student in hypothermic
cardiac arrest research
Join the Institute for
Experimental Medical Research (IEMR), one of the internationally leading teams
in translational heart research. We invite applications for a 3-year PhD
fellowship, employed by and in collaboration with the Norwegian Air Ambulance
Foundation, as part of the project RE-HEAT: Prehospital Prevention and
Treatment of Hypothermic Cardiac Arrest. This projects examines pharmacological interventions and
ECG-based risk stratification to improve prevention, treatment and prediction
of hypothermia-induced cardiac arrest, using an advanced large-animal model,
cell and organ models, as well as clinical data. As a PhD fellow in our group, you will work with state-of-the-art
methodologies within a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment, while
contributing to research that directly informs future treatment strategies for hypothermia-induced
arrhythmias. The
project will be conducted in the Translational cardiovascular pharmacology group,
led by Professor Erik Sveberg Dietrichs.
Who we are –
the Institute for Experimental Medical Research:
IEMR, located at Oslo
University Hospital (OUS) and University of Oslo (UiO) is an innovative and
dynamic medical research environment with approximately 50% international
researchers, and relies on close interaction between MDs, physicists,
physiologists, molecular biologists, engineers and mathematicians. IEMR is
responsible for several cutting-edge research infrastructures, including a
preclinical MR unit and a super-resolution microscopy laboratory. For more
about IEMR, please see the institute web site, www.iemr.no.
Who we are – the
Norwegian Air Ambulance Foundation:
The Norwegian Air
Ambulance Foundation (SNLA) aims to promote advanced prehospital emergency
medicine through research, innovation, and competence building. We have
Europe’s largest research environment within emergency medicine, with more than
50 affiliated PhD fellows and researchers, in close collaboration with
Norwegian health trusts and universities.
Work tasks
· Conduct research on the
electrophysiological mechanisms of hypothermic cardiac arrest, using a
clinically relevant large-animal model (pig), cell and organ models, as well as
clinical data.
· Lead and contribute to data
analysis, manuscript writing, and international scientific presentations.
· Play an active role in planning and
executing experiments, ensuring high methodological quality.
· Collaborate with leading researchers
in the field, both at IEMR and through international partnerships.

the firstyear of the PhD.
· Prior experience with clinical patient studies, in
vivo animal models, langendorff perparations, cell isolation and/or human stem
cell models will be viewed as an asset.
Medical doctors with prior experience in evaluating ECG-markers or that
have experience in laboratory work, particular within cardiovascular or
pharmacological research are encouraged to apply.
