The Bioinformatics Core Facility at Oslo University Hospital (OUH)/ Helse Sør-Øst (HSØ) is looking for an experienced bioinformatician to join our team.
The Bioinformatics Core Facility supports cutting-edge clinical, translational, and basic research throughout the health region, providing expertise in next-generation sequencing (NGS) in genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics, biostatistics, and scripting. As part of our team, you will work on diverse and impactful projects, with a strong focus on multi-omics data analysis. The successful candidate will join a broad, competent team at the Department of Core Facilities, which comprises seven regional core facilities equipped with cutting-edge technology ( http:///www.ous-research.no/corefacilities/ ). The department is based at the Institute for Cancer Research at OUH and maintains close collaboration with research groups at the hospital. Additionally, the Bioinformatics Core Facility collaborates with leading environments at the University of Oslo, including the University Centre for Information Technology (USIT) and ELIXIR Norway. The candidate will engage with ELIXIR Norway through helpdesk activities and joint meetings. The position is for a two-year term, with the possibility of extension.

Tasks:
- Diverse bioinformatics data analysis services for researchers in the Helse Sør-Øst region, focusing on multi-omics data analysis such as variant calling, copy number variation, differential gene expression, and methylation analysis.
- Maintain and expand transcriptomic and proteomic single-cell data analysis pipelines, along with spatial transcriptomics analysis, and apply these to user-defined projects.
- Evaluate new bioinformatics tools and workflows with emphasis on machine leaning and related to the research services offered.
- Participate in meetings and discussions with users or user groups, and assist in project reporting for the core facility.
- Assist with organising courses, workshops, and presenting the core facility services through outreach seminars and events.
Qualifications:
- A Master’s science degree in bioinformatics and/or applied statistics, informatics or equivalent is required.
- Advanced skills in bioinformatics are essential, and the candidate must demonstrate strong programming abilities.
- Documented competence in NGS data analysis is required.
- Proficiency in biostatistics and familiarity with HPC will be advantageous.
- Practical experience in user support is advantageous
- An understanding of molecular biology is a preferred part of the skill set.
- Competence in Cancer Genomics, single-cell analysis and/or spatial transcriptomics is an advantage.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.

- The ability to independently acquire new knowledge and skills through self-learning and proactive engagement with colleagues and relevant experts is essential.
- Good communication skills are a key factor in the assessment, as the successful applicant is expected to work closely with colleagues and researchers using the services of the core facility.
- Good documentation skills are required for the work.
