Product Classification Engineer – Export Controller

The medium voltage switchgear factory in Skien Norway develops and produces ring main units (RMU), compact switchgear (CSG), used in electrical distribution network (12-36kV). The product management team play an important role to optimize the product position across product life cycle. The team will drive activities for SafeRing and SafePlus product portfolio in cooperation with the local and global product management team. The product management team supports business results by overseeing all steps in the product, system or service life cycle including development, launch, maintenance, pricing, and profitability. Product specialist reports to the Local Product Manager. 

As a Product Classification Engineer, you will be a key contributor to ABB’s global trade compliance efforts. Your role will ensure that our products and technologies are correctly classified in accordance with export control regulations and customs requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform product classification and prepare classification reports and declarations (HTS, ECN/ECCN).

• Ensure compliance with international export control regulations (dual-use, military) and customs laws.

• Collaborate with internal teams (e.g. procurement, engineering, logistics, sales) to validate and manage classification data.

• Support license determination and facilitate timely export license applications.

• Maintain and update master data in SAP GTS and other systems.

• Monitor regulatory changes and ensure timely reclassification of affected products.

• Calculate preferential and non-preferential origin of products and support origin documentation processes.

• Contribute to automation and improvement of classification and origin management processes.

• A collaborative and appreciated working culture

Your background:

• Experience in export control, customs classification, or origin management is highly valued.

• Familiarity with ABB products and SAP GTS is an advantage.

• Fluent in English and Norwegian (verbal and written).

• Relevant experience may compensate for lack of formal education.
