Analyst – External Strategies
Norges Bank Investment Management is seeking a dedicated and result oriented professional for the position as Analyst in ExternalStrategies, part of the Active Strategies Area. NBIM uses external managers tomanage parts of the fund’s investments. These include Emerging Market EquityMandates, Small and Mid Cap and Sector focused Long and Long/Short EquityMandates in Developed Markets.
The fund has 940 billion kroner, or approximately 5 percent of its capital, invested with external managers. External managers have playedan important role for NBIM since 1998, both through excess return in 22 of the26 years, and through reducing the risk of our investments by avoidingcompanies with weak corporate governance. Today we have 110 external managersin 50 different cities. Their proximity to the markets, and in-depth knowledgeof the development in the regions and sectors are key strengths.
External Strategies is a team of 8, responsible for selecting, monitoring, and allocating between external managers. We are a small and resultoriented team focused on generating highest possible return with an acceptablelevel of risk. The team travels extensively, meeting existing and potential newequity managers, as well as other local market participants, at their sites.Our commitment to continuous evolution, innovation, and strategic thinkingremains unwavering.
The position is in Oslo, but extensive travel across the world, meeting themanagers on the ground, is required.
Duties and responsibilities
What you will do
- Analysing and evaluating existing portfolio managers’ position and risk
- Selecting external managers in emerging and developed markets
- Developing tools for analyzing and monitoring existing and new portfolio managers
- Contributing to a hardworking, high-performing team with a focus on results
Qualifications (heading)
What you need
- Master’s degree in finance, engineering, or a related field, with a strong academic track record
- 3–5 years of experience as an equity analyst, portfolio manager, or in evaluating external fund managers
- Exceptional analytical skills and a solid foundation in financial theory
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative mindset
