SINTEF Ocean is seeking an analytical chemist within chromatography and mass spectrometry
The Laboratory services group is part of the department for Climate and Environment in SINTEF Ocean. Our group contributes as part of multi- and interdisciplinary research teams with scientists from across the department and institute. Our key activities are centered around characterization of complex pollutant mixtures in environmental matrices, as well as fate and effects studies of chemical and particulate pollutants. Here, we work in close collaboration with scientists with core competences in e.g., analytical chemistry, ecotoxicology, molecular biology, ecology, sensor development, bioinformatics as well as researchers with domain expertise in our core markets including oceanography, aquaculture, fisheries, maritime and offshore industries.
Our analytical chemistry laboratory is equipped with a wide range of state-of-the-art GC- and LC-based instrumentation, supported by a well-equipped sample preparation infrastructure.
In the quest to strengthen our team, we are searching for someone to enhace our capacity within analytical chemistry, particularly within LC-MS/MS analysis of chemicals of emerging concern, including pharmaceuticals, biocides, and plastic chemicals. Metabolite analysis and-omics related analyses are also part of our analysis portfolio. We wish to strengthen our capacity within chromatography of pharmaceuticals, new and emerging pollutants and omics related analyses. The preferred candidate for this position should hold a senior engineer title (with a background in chemical engineering or an MSc degree) or be an MSc-level scientist, possessing a minimum of 3 years of experience in analytical chemistry. Essential qualities for the applicant include hands-on experience in methods development, lab operations, and expertise in LC-MS.These are important qualities for the successful applicant which will be expected to perform these tasks:
- Organic Analytical Chemistry, involving sample preparation, maintenance, troubleshooting on HPLC and LC-MS/MS systems as well as the maintenance and service of GC based systems ranging from GC-FID to GCxGC-QTOF when required.
- Participation in the experiments being conducted in the department ranging from field experiments/sampling to exposure studies in the laboratory.
- Contribute to the general operation of our combined laboratories.
- Collaborate with scientists coming from multiple backgrounds (Organic chemistry, Oil chemistry, toxicology, microbiology, ecology) to find the best analytical solutions for their projects, and contribute to experiments within environmental chemistry, microbiology, and eco-toxicology.
