Iconic 356 Speedster presented in great state and condition. Finished in the attractive factory-correct colour pairing of Ruby Red over Black leatherette interior. Powered by a period-correct 1,582 cc flat-four boxer engine. Benefits from restoration work performed largely to original specification. Offered with a copy of its factory Kardex sheet and a tool roll. The arrival of Porsche’s internationally spartan 356 Speedster revolutionized the world of low-cost, high-reward sports cars, which had been previously dominated in the early 1950’s by small British roadsters. Seeking access to this growing market segment, New York importer Max Hoffman urged Ferry Porsche to provide him with a price- Competitive model, one that he could sell for a base price of just under 3000 dollar. The exciting Speedster was an instant hit-particularly with customers on the United States West Coast-and is coveted by enthusiasts today. The attractive Ruby Red over Black example, offered here, began life with its first owner on the warm shores of California, USA. The car has California black plated license plates. Because of this, the car was never rusty and has its original chassi (bottom). Today the car is registered in Sweden and has been in a private collection since 2017. Since then the Porsche is noted to have undergone restoration by California-based workshop European Collectibles. During this process the 356 Speedster was returned largely to original specification, as noted by the copy of the Kardex sheet that accompanies the car. Notably, the 356 gained a period- correct 1.582 cc Type 616/1 flat-four boxer engine, sending power to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox. At the point of restoration, the interior was executed in factory-correct black leatherette, complementing its rich Ruby Red exterior. Today, the car presents in impeccable condition through, with potential buyer encouraged to appreciate the high quality of finish that is particularly evident with the exterior bodywork.
