Beskrivelse

Due to a change in professional life, I must sell my sailboat, Ghaaata.

Ghaaata is a Jeanneau Rush 90, model known as Arcadia across Europe. Up to this year, I’ve been investing heavily, being the intention to keep the boat.

Bought in 2017 and sailed a lot in all kind of conditions, including longer travels to the west coast, the boat is built solid, takes well the sea and is fun to sail. Very easy to sail solo.

Vårpuss 2024 is done. Redningsselskapet Total and Telenor VHF licence are paid for 2024. Ready to sail.

Key Features

Sails and rig

The sails are from 2021, made by the well-known sailmaker Petter Hoeg, reinforced for off-shore sailing. 3 reefs on the main sail. Genoa is 140%. These are really strong sails. The genoa has been at North Sails this year for revision and reinforcement of some chafing points.

Anchor bulkhead has been reinforced this year, with the intention to install an inner forestay, but the project was not concluded. If wished in the future, the work is partially done.

The standing rig and the mast were replaced by the previous owner in 2008. It looks perfectly good. The genoa furler is ProFurl, with reinforced pin and bolts added (ordered at ProFurl) for off-shore sail.

Second set of sails, from 2006, North Sails Dyneema Radialcut, very usable. I just replaced them due to the kind of sail I do.

Clutches (avlaster) are mostly recent and some brand new from 2024. Setup for preventer at the boom is installed this year.

Electronics and electrical system

Electronics are from 2021, with a Raymarine Axiom 9, AIS transponder Raymarine 700 SOTDMA, class B+ and a VHF Standard Horizon with DSC and integrated GPS (a huge safety feature). New VHF antenna and coaxial. No wind instruments, as I use the Windex (new on 2017).

There are 2 autopilots: Simrad TP32 (2022) and one TP22 (2017). Both are working well. I have 2 because I solo sail some distances, I know they tend to fail and will have to buy anyhow.

All light bulbs inside and outside are replaced by led.

Batteries are some 140 A + 80 A (reserve) and start. Exact dates I don't remember, but all purchased after 2017. Solar panel 50 W, “tough” type, which you can step on.

Ladac shore power (works very well).

800 W Victron Phoenix 12/800 inverter, with pure wave allows to work from the boat off grid.

A Victron galvanic isolator VDI-16A has been added for peace of mind.

Most electrical wiring has been replaced, in particular the feed to the panel board. Oversized marine cables (Fortinnet marinekabel) have been used, of course.

Engine and propulsion

The very reliable Yanmar 2GM has been serviced yearly with new oil, filters and impeller. 2 years ago, the exhaust elbow was replaced by a new one, in stainless steel, as preventive maintenance. The 2 engine anodes are checked and replaced regularly. Both belts were replaced this year. Engine starts without hesitation and never presented any problem.

Many spare parts are included, including old belts and impellers which are totally usable in an emergency. See photos.

Flexofold propeller from 2022 and a new shaft. Prior, a new shaft seal PSS drip-less was installed and 2 bilge pumps were replaced.  2 engine rear mounts are new.

Hull and steering

Very strong structure, with a compression post to the keel.

It is not a new boat: I sail the boat and the hull shows several signs of small impacts and repairs.

There are no indication of osmosis.

As in many older boats, the antifouling tends to flake out. In the affected areas, I use West System epoxy as barrier coat and antifoul again. It is totally ok, but I recommend to remove the old antifouling and do a proper job. It should be quite easy and not expensive. The old antifouling comes out very easily (which is exactly the problem).

The complete rudder was replaced by new on 2019/2020. The old one presented some rot. The job is well documented. The new rudder is a Jefa from Denmark. Lower bushing is Vesconite. The tiller head was replaced as well. The upper bushing was ok.

Interior

This is one of the few 30 ft sailboats from the 80’s with a separate cabin aft. I sleep better there than at home. There is good light and the interior is generally pleasant. The heads are separate. Toilet pump is brand new (2024). There are no smells.

The windows are a bit crazed but watertight. The ceiling has been repaired and it is not perfect (typical problem for boats from the 80s).

If you are very tall, the height may present a problem. For me, 175, it is ok, and I feel it is a nice place to be, cook, have a nice dinner and watch a movie on the laptop.

Known defects:

-       Anchor light and steaming light missing: This is easy to fix next time mast is down. In the meantime, this is solved with a rechargeable light.

-       Antifouling flaking: It has been repaired each year but the right solution is to remove and reapply.

-       Front window on deck doesn’t open (and doesn’t leak).

-       The fridge compressor looks like new, however I don’t know how to switch it on. As I use the kjøleskap for other things anyhow, I never cared too much about it.

Fun fact:

Ghaaata was the star of some promotional videos and articles in Norway and international, and appeared on Seilbåtmagasinet. Details will be given if of interest.

***

In overall, a sailboat that has benefited of extensive upgrades and investment, safe and fun for beginners and experienced sailors. I spent a significant amount of money which I will never see back, of course, but enjoyed a lot of great moments. No regrets :-)

The boat is located in Kambo, near Son / Moss. The Summer season 2024 is paid and I presume it can be used by the new owner.

There are plenty of better sailors but if wished, for beginners, I can give some hints how to handle Ghaaata. I prioritize safety and hold the D5L, Ocean Skipper and ICC certificates. I’m not a regatta expert.

Your call is welcome for a “hyggelig båtprat”. My skills in Norwegian language are limited but I understand and read.
