The spitfire finish takes its cue from the historic English spitfire airplane in World War II, echoing the plane’s multi-riveted construction of interlocking aluminium panels, and is finished through a five-stage process that creates an impression of worn, distressed metal.

Deriving its name from Sir Walter Raleigh, a British 16th century aristocrat and explorer, the Timothy Oulton Raleigh Spitfire case echoes the fighter plane’s multi-riveted construction and interlocking aluminum panels, and is finished through a five-stage process that creates an impression of worn, distressed metal. The sleek, aerodynamic finishes of each case are redolent with the aircraft’s history, giving a unique aspect to the product as a whole. The Supermarine Spitfire became the backbone of the Royal Air Force fighter command, eventually helping England to prevail during the Battle of Britain.

The aviation theme is a recurrent source of inspiration in Timothy Oulton designs. From the F14 Grumman fighter jet inspired Tom Cat Chair, available in Spitfire, Black Spitfire and Aero finish to the Black Hawk collection of chests, tables and bookcases, and the Aviator Cowling mirror, the aircraft inspired design provided reliable grounds to develop the Spitfire range.
Their aerodynamically-inspired Aviator range was influenced by the historical British Royal Air Force World War II Spitfire fighter plane. Interlocking aluminum panels are riveted together then put through a five stage process to distress the metal creating the unique Spitfire finish. The sleek lines of each piece are reminiscent of the aircraft, while design elements of the plane’s wing tips, engine, turbine and cockpit are translated into functional, modern forms.
