1960s/1970s Icelandic "Lava" pottery vase made by the famous studio Glit (Glit hf. Reykjavik Pottery).
"LAVA": This is the signature trademark of the company's most collectible line. The studio literally mixed real volcanic lava rock, ash, and pumice collected from local active Icelandic volcanoes into their clay and glazes. This technique created the distinct, ultra-textured, bubbling crust running around the center of the vase.
Signed! "H.S." In 1968, the artistic direction of Glit was handed over to a German ceramic artist named Gerhard Schwarz, who ran the studio until 1973. Studio throwers and decorators hand-signed these pieces using distinct painter marks.
