Can you develop the AI accelerators powering human-robot collaboration?
InMind is a robotics company based in Trondheim and Palo Alto, building technology for safe, smart, and efficient human-robot collaboration. Our first robot is designed to work alongside people, reduce manual workload, and improve efficiency in environments where traditional automation comes up short.
To succeed where other robotic systems struggle, we have built a unique technical architecture with custom FPGA-based electronics, tailored mechanics, and a fully integrated solution for highly efficient on-device signal processing and training of specialized ML and AI algorithms. This enables robots to learn quickly, adapt in real time, and operate safely in complex, industrial settings.
We have a strong and highly competent team of 20 people who have already built a working robot, which is now being refined in iterations together with key pilot customers. As we enter our next growth phase, we are expanding the product-development team with a set of targeted hires that will increase capacity and competency, strengthen execution, and accelerate the path from advanced technology to robust products and customer value.
One of the key roles we are now looking to fill is a Senior FPGA / Embedded Engineer (AI Accelerators) who will take ownership of the implementation of our data processing platform and ensure that system performance meets product requirements. You will work hands-on with embedded and FPGA-based compute solutions, making practical architecture decisions based on what works in practice rather than what looks ideal on paper. Working closely with FPGA-, AI-, and System teams, you will play a key role in tightly integrating hardware, AI, and overall system performance. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys combining deep technical expertise with pragmatic engineering judgement, and who is motivated by building high-performance compute systems for real products.
What experience and qualifications do you bring?
The most important thing you bring to InMind is deep experience with embedded systems and high-performance compute, and the ability to make sound technical decisions in environments where performance, power, complexity, and time-to-market must be balanced carefully. You are comfortable working close to the hardware, understand system-level trade-offs, and enjoy turning advanced compute architectures into robust solutions that perform in practice.
You may recognize yourself in some of the following:Strong experience with embedded systems and high-performance compute platforms such as FPGA, GPU, or similar technologies
Experience developing and optimizing compute solutions for edge devices or other resource-constrained environments
Strong understanding of system-level trade-offs between performance, power, complexity, and time-to-market
Ability to evaluate and select practical architectures for AI accelleration in real-time embedded systems
Strong debugging and optimization skills at system level, with a focus on performance and efficiency
Experience in contributing to technical direction, prioritization, or coordination within a team is an advantage
We would like you to communicate well in English, both written and spoken. Norwegian is an advantage, but not a requirement. Additional language skills are of course a plus.
We expect you to have at least five years of relevant work experience and a Master’s degree in electronics, embedded systems, computer engineering, cybernetics, or a related field.
Who are you as a person?
We believe you are someone who enjoys working hands-on with advanced technology and takes pride in building solutions that deliver real performance in practice. You are curious, analytical, and pragmatic, and you are motivated by solving complex engineering challenges where the best answer is often a well-balanced compromise rather than a theoretically perfect design.
You are comfortable working in an environment where not everything is fully defined from the start, and where progress depends on people who can combine depth of expertise with speed and sound judgement.
Just as importantly, you enjoy working closely with others and understand that strong system performance is the result of tight collaboration across disciplines. You communicate clearly, contribute positively to the team around you, and know when to take ownership and when to involve others.
Personal fit will be given significant weight.
Why join InMind?
This is an opportunity to join a company with a clear direction, ambitious goals, and a team that is already working in a focused and structured way toward product and market. At the same time we are still at a stage where the right people can actively influence solutions, contribute to innovation, and help shape how we continue to develop both our technology and our products.
You will work closely with a highly skilled and multidisciplinary team in an environment where responsibility is shared, ideas are valued, and collaboration matters. We work in agile iterations, with teams focused on different parts of the product and the problems we are solving, supported by a structured process and experienced people who help ensure coordination, learning, and steady progress.
We offer competitive terms, including salary, pension and insurance arrangements, flexible working conditions, and modern offices at Tyholt in Trondheim. As part of our continued growth, we offer an employee shareholder program and long-term incentive schemes.
Would you like to join us on our mission to make robots learn?
If this role sparks your curiosity, we would love to hear from you. Don’t hesitate to reach out to our recruitment partner at LHH, Trude Støren (+47 928 92 461), or InMind COO John Raaum (+47 934 20 086), to learn more – or simply send us your application. We review and interview candidates on an ongoing basis, even before the formal application deadline.
InMind is an international and multidisciplinary team with people from several parts of the world, and we see diversity of background and perspective as a clear strength. Like many companies in our field, we are currently more men than women — and we would genuinely welcome more female applicants. Even if you do not meet every single requirement, we would still encourage you to apply if the role and our mission resonate with you.
