Boasting a discontinued FSR (Factory Special Run) custom color Surf Green finish, the Hybrid '60s model is one of the finest Strat iterations ever produced by Fender Japan (and a model not available in the USA / EU market), simply stunning in its forward-thinking design and player-friendly features. The guitar features an alder body, thick slab rosewood fretboard, USA-made Fender black bobbin pickups, USA-made CTS pots, a two-point vibrato unit, locking vintage-style tuners, larger fretwire, a modern fretboard radius, and a silky smooth satin neck profile finish.
The perfect marriage of Vintage and Modern, the Hybrid '60 model is true to its name, yet the tonal range of the instrument is firmly in the Vintage camp. The black bobbin Fender USA 57/62 pickups feature staggered, beveled alnico magnets and cloth covered leads, with a clear, sparkling top end, smooth midrange character, and a full yet focused bass that still has a nice snap.
The maple neck has an infinitely playable U-shaped profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders, lightly rolled fretboard edges, and ideal heft, measuring .850" deep at the 1st fret and .940" at the 12th. The satin-finished profile feels great on the palm, and the neck is capped with a thick, dark rosewood slab fretboard. The medium jumbo fretwire has good meat and height, some play wear in upper frets.
While the finish is categorized by Fender Japan as "Surf Green," Fender Japan has had a long standing reputation for playing fast and loose with their custom color nomenclature, especially in the blue/green range. This particular finish has the saturation and blue tint consistent with Seafoam Green, while Surf is a much paler shade with a yellow cast.
