As a Cybernetics & Robotics Engineer, you will be part of a team developing and improving our advanced patient-simulator products. The simulators are closely related to humanoid robots and are equipped with sensors and actuators that mimic human behavior and physiological responses such as breathing, blinking, moving, talking and much more.
You will work in a cross-functional team and collaborate closely with fellow Cybernetics & Robotics Engineers as well as mechanical-, firmware- and electronics engineers, designers, and product leadership at our facilities in Stavanger. You will have access to well-equipped electronics labs, mechanical workshops, 3D printers, a state-of-the-art test laboratory, and other tools that support prototyping and product development.
Some of what you will be doing
Develop advanced control systems
Design, implement and maintain parts, systems and components in Laerdal’s manikins
Use and help improve established development processes, tools, and best practices
Participate in iterative, multidisciplinary product development activities, such as:
Prototyping and early concepts
Requirements and specifications
Detailed design and architecture
Verification and testing
Troubleshooting and root cause analysis
Who we envision would fit the role
You are an engineer with experience or interest in systems modelling and curiosity about new technologies and ideas. You collaborate across disciplines and communicate clearly and thoughtfully with your team and colleagues.
Preferred qualifications and experience (not all required):
A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Cybernetics, Robotics, Computer Science, Mechatronics or similar background related to control systems.
Experience with mathematical modelling, simulation, and physics-based analysis for designing and optimizing complex robotic- and cybernetic systems
Familiarity with tools and programming languages such as Python, Octave, Julia and MATLAB/Simulink for modelling, simulation, and data analysis
Commitment to clear, thorough documentation — design notes, reports, and code comments that support knowledge sharing
Other qualifications that would benefit the role:
Exposure to hydraulics, pneumatics and electromechanics
Interested in rapid prototyping and iterative product design
Experience or interest in electronics and microcontrollers
A creative and playful mindset
Ability to bring a practical “hands-on” approach to engineering challenges
Familiarity with tools for source control, issue tracking, and similar workflows
Experience with multidisciplinary hardware product development
