U.S. Embassy Oslo seeks Marine Security Guard Driver
Summary
The incumbent safely operates both non-armored and fully armored (FA) vehicles to transport members of the Marine Security Guard (MSG) Detachment within the city and the surrounding region and is responsible for ensuring vehicles are clean and in serviceable condition.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Driver 85%
Following all local traffic laws and applicable Department of State motor vehicle policies, safely operates both non-armored and fully armored (FA) vehicles to transport the MSGs within the city and the surrounding region.
Acts as alert observer preventing unauthorized access to the vehicle, ensuring pick-up and drop-off at safe locations and reacting defensively in response to potential security threat-related situations.
Analyses the daily trip schedule, ensuring familiarity with both a primary and alternate route to the destination, as well as potential security concerns at destination.
Conducts radio communications with the Embassy's Local Guard Force when necessary.
Safeguards vehicle fuel card with a $300 limit.
Vehicle Maintenance 5%
Keeps the vehicle in clean and serviceable condition at all times. Conducts vehicle inspection and reports vehicle deficiencies to the Motor Pool supervisor. Ensures necessary preventative maintenance is scheduled and performed.
Reporting 5%
Completes daily vehicle use and condition reports, ensuring that the trip ticket logs are signed by all MSGs using assigned vehicles. Prepares accident and vehicle reports, trip logs and travel documents. Records miles driven daily.
Other 5%
Serves as a motor pool driver when time and schedule permits.
Requirements
EXPERIENCE: Two years of professional driving experience is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Expert knowledge of Norwegian traffic laws and regulations. Detailed knowledge of the city of Oslo and the surrounding region. General knowledge of automotive mechanics and preventative maintenance schedules.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The ability to make on-the-spot decisions as to timing, routes, and security pertaining to the safe and efficient transportation of passengers is required. Ability to detect vehicle defects and report them immediately to supervisor. The ability to deal with high-level officials in a relaxed and competent manner is required. General awareness of the general political climate in the country related to protests, demonstrations, and riots.
EDUCATION: Completion of secondary school (high school diploma received).
DRIVER'S LICENSE: Must have valid Category B, C1, and D1 licenses, held for a minimum of 5 years, and be at least 25 years old).
LANGUAGE: English and Norwegian (speaking, reading, writing) good working knowledge (Level B1). Can be documented with scores from upper secondary school or university or exam or with a valid testing score.
Selected candidate must be able to obtain and hold a security certificate.
Selected candidate will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam.
Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
