Naval Architect Salt Ship Design

To Salt’s new growing team in Bergen, we are looking for a Naval Architect with a strong background in stability and hydrostatics to strengthen our naval architecture capacity. You will work on a wide range of vessel types and projects, from concept development to final as-built documentation, contributing to safe, efficient, and innovative ship designs.

The position offers significant technical responsibility and influence on design decisions throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Stability calculations and assessments for newbuilds and conversions

• Preparation of intact and damage stability documentation in accordance with class and flag requirements

• Development of stability booklets and loading manuals

• Hydrostatic calculations and weight estimate in early design phases

• Technical support during class approval processes and client discussions

• Contribution to design optimization and feasibility studies

• Collaboration with naval architects, structural engineers, and system designers

• Participation in design reviews and project meetings

Qualifications

• MSc or BSc in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering

• Solid understanding of intact and damage stability regulations (IMO, class rules)

• Experience with stability software NAPA

• Structured, analytical, and quality-oriented working approach

• Ability to work independently as well as in multidisciplinary teams

• Good written and verbal communication skills in English

Preferred experience

• Experience from design office or shipyard

• Familiarity with class approval processes and regulatory dialogue

• Programming or scripting skills (e.g. Python, VBA) for engineering tasks

• Interest in innovative vessel concepts and new technologies

• Experience with naval projects

• Early-career naval architects and recently graduated candidates with a solid theoretical foundation will be evaluated as well
