Senior Backend Developer

Netlife develops and operates a white label workflow and ecommerce platform used by volume photographers in more than 30 countries around the world. Our customers photograph more than 7 million students and athletes every year, and our ecommerce platform handles a yearly transaction value of more than 1000 MNOK.

To keep up with our growth and enable us to be even more ambitious in the future, we are now looking for more talented and friendly people to join our small but growing team.

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced backend engineer to join our development team. You enjoy tackling complex technical challenges by designing and implementing efficient, well-structured and testable code. You want to learn how all the parts of a complex system works together, and you want to know what it takes to run your code in a global production environment as much as you care about writing and debugging it.

In this role, you will work both on developing new functionality and on maintaining, refactoring and modernizing an existing codebase. You are comfortable improving legacy systems incrementally, reducing technical debt, and making pragmatic decisions that balance long term architecture with day-to-day business needs.

Qualifications we are looking for

• B.Sc or M.Sc in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in backend development.
• Quick learner and passionate about technology, both using the right tools for the job, but also being interested in new technologies.
• Experience using PHP at scale, including modern PHP practices and design patterns.
• Experience with the Symfony framework or similar modern PHP frameworks is a strong plus.
• Experience designing, querying, and optimizing relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL. Experience with ORM layers is an advantage.
• Solid understanding of computer networking concepts and protocols.
• Experience working with web servers and web server technologies such as Apache and Nginx.
• Experience designing and developing high-performance, scalable backend systems.
• Strong understanding of secure development practices, including common security vulnerabilities and how to prevent them.
• Experience with automated testing, and the ability to write well-structured, testable, and maintainable code.
• Proficiency with Git and collaborative version control workflows.
• Experience with developing and debugging Linux/FreeBSD-based backend systems.
