Galaxy Force is a sprite-scaling rail shooter arcade game, released by Sega in 1988 and built upon the Sega Y Board. The game, which is in the tradition of Sega's successful Space Harrier game, is set in space, with the gameplay of After Burner and Thunder Blade. Two other versions of the arcade game were released as Galaxy Force II and Galaxy Force Super Deluxe Edition. The game was ported in 1989 to the Master System, and in 1990, to the Mega Drive/Genesis, Amiga, Atari ST, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum, FM Towns, Sega Saturn and PlayStation 2 platforms. Galaxy Force II was also made available on the Virtual Console via Genesis/Mega Drive in Japan on February 3rd, 2009, in Europe on May 1th, 2009, and in North America on May 11th, 2009.
Alien3 is a 1992 side-scrolling shooter video game developed by Probe Software and published by Arena Entertainment for the SEGA Master System, SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive and Commodore 64. It is based on the film of the same name. Ports for the Amiga home computer and Nintendo Entertainment System were published by Virgin Games and LJN, respectively, while a version for the SEGA Game Gear was released in 1994 by Arena Entertainment.
The Master System/Mega Drive title is just one of four video games created to tie into the release of Alien3. Also produced were a Game Boy game, a Nintendo Entertainment System game and a Super Nintendo Entertainment System game. Despite the fact all four were released under the title Alien3, gameplay actually varies quite substantially across the four titles.
