TS-Optics Bahtinov mask made of metal for the Seestar S30 from ZWO
The Bahtinov mask is named after the inventor Pavel Bahtinov. This focusing aid enables clear focusing of astro images in the focus of your telescope.
The Bahtinov mask is a simple but effective tool that can significantly improve the focusing of your telescope. In combination with the autofocus mode of the ZWO Seestar S30, it is a very easy and fast way to achieve razor-sharp deep-sky images:
Put the mask on the telescope and point it at a bright star.
Use a star of medium brightness for focusing; it should not be too bright, but not too dark either. The diffraction lines must be clearly visible.
The star should not be exactly in the center, as the field of view of the corrected telescope or objective is often not 100% flat. Take a star in the outer third of the field. This will give you a better averaged sharpness for the entire image.
Observe the image of the star.
If the image is not exactly sharp, the central line is shifted. Wait until the central line runs exactly through the center of the star.
You have now achieved optimum sharpness. Remove the mask from the telescope and you can start exposing the image.

Although the Seestar already has a built-in LPS filter against light pollution, it is often exciting to emphasize particularly interesting regions in the H-alpha or O-III range with even more contrast. This adapter allows the use of individual 1.25" nebula filters, so you can optimally adapt the Seestar to the object you are photographing.
