Software Engineer

Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Software Engineer to join our engineering team, working on the next generation of high-performance electric motors. In this role you will carry the responsibility for the full tech stack forming Alva’s motor design and analysis software. The software primarily serves as an internal engineering tool but will also interface with customers.

You will be expected to professionalize the development of Alva’s motor design software, ensuring good development practices, an appropriate architecture, data security and reliable performance. You will work particularly closely with the electromagnetics and thermal engineers (who are the main users and developers of the tool) to ensure that the software is appropriately developed around their models and data. You will also work closely with the Product team and provide both them and customers with appropriate interfaces to our tool.

This is a unique opportunity for a skilled software developer who is also experienced with or particularly interested in hardware products like electric motors. The position provides opportunities to grow into new responsibilities, depending on the candidate's interests and skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Own the development and architecture of Alva’s motor design software

• Improve and develop new features for our cloud-hosted Flask server

• Build appropriate frontends for various use cases

• Encourage good development practices

• Ensure data security

• Ensure good version control practices (code and data)

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including electromagnetics, thermal, mechanical,production engineering and testing—to ensure that the right information is available in the right place at the right time and to the right people.

• Aid with cross-tool integration – improve efficiency, collaboration and information flow throughout the companyby utilizing the APIs of other tools (COMSOL, onShape, Simscale, Sharepoint etc.) to set up appropriate integrations.

Key Qualifications & Experience:

• Relevant education, either computer science or other engineering discipline

• Experience building full-stack applications

• Self-driven

• Skilled in both written and spoken communication

You should be familiar with most of the following

• Google Cloud Platform or equivalent

• Firebase

• Python

• Github

• React or other frontend web frameworks

• Basic electrical engineering principles
