About the Role (Job Purpose)
Nscale is seeking an experienced Facilities Manager to oversee operations, maintenance, and strategic growth of our Glomfjord Datacenter. This role is critical to ensuring uptime, reliability, and compliance across all facility systems—power, cooling, security, and environmental.
You will be responsible for managing daily operations, supervising on-site personnel and vendors, and implementing processes that maintain high standards of performance, efficiency, and safety.
You’ll collaborate with global engineering and IT teams to support current operations and plan for future capacity expansion.
What You’ll be Doing (Responsibilities)
1. Operations and Maintenance
● Oversee daily operation of datacenter infrastructure (power, cooling, fire suppression, etc.).
● Develop and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for maintenance and
emergency response.
● Coordinate planned maintenance to minimize disruption to service availability.
● Monitor all facility systems for anomalies and proactively mitigate potential issues.
2. Power and Cooling Management
● Ensure reliable and redundant power supply, including UPS and PDU systems.
● Manage HVAC and CRAC systems to maintain optimal environmental conditions.
● Track and optimize energy efficiency metrics, implementing sustainability improvements.
3. Security and Access Control
● Implement and maintain physical security controls (badge access, CCTV).
● Manage access permissions and escort procedures for vendors and visitors.
● Ensure adherence to security compliance frameworks (ISO 27001, SOC 2, etc.).
4. Compliance and Documentation
● Maintain comprehensive records of inspections, maintenance, incidents, and audits.
● Ensure compliance with local fire safety, electrical, and environmental regulations.
● Prepare and support external audits from clients and certification bodies.
5. Vendor and Asset Management
● Manage third-party service providers for security, cleaning, and maintenance.
● Track and manage physical assets including servers, racks, and critical facility
infrastructure.
● Oversee procurement and lifecycle management of facility equipment.
6. Team Management and Training
● Supervise facilities staff, contractors, and maintenance personnel.
● Develop and deliver training for emergency response and operational procedures.
● Lead post-incident reviews and root cause analyses for service-impacting events.
7. Capacity Planning and Expansion
● Monitor facility utilization (power, space, cooling) and forecast capacity needs.
● Plan and coordinate datacenter expansions, retrofits, or upgrades.
● Collaborate with IT and business teams to align infrastructure growth with strategic objectives.
8. Emergency and Risk Management
● Maintain and regularly test backup systems and failover processes.
● Develop and execute disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
● Act as on-site lead during emergency situations such as outages or environmental events.
About You (Skills / Qualifications)
Proven experience managing datacenter or critical facility operations.
Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems (HVAC, UPS, generators,
switchgear).Familiarity with datacenter standards (ASHRAE, Uptime Institute, ISO 27001).
Experience with CMMS or BMS systems for monitoring and maintenance tracking.
Demonstrated success in vendor management and team leadership.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach.
Excellent communication in English; Norwegian proficiency is a plus.
Relevant certifications (e.g., CFM, DCP, PMP) are advantageous.
