The Red Devil salmon fly is a popular and effective tube fly pattern, originally designed by Davie McPhail for fishing the River Doon and other rivers in Ayrshire, Scotland. The small, red, and copper-colored fly is particularly effective in peaty water conditions during the summer and autumn months.
How the Red Devil works
Irresistible attraction: The flash and color are particularly effective at attracting migrating Atlantic salmon, which are known to see red and orange colors better as they adapt to freshwater.
Realistic profile: Its small, compact design and depth from the tube body are intended to imitate small baitfish or wounded prey, triggering aggressive strikes from predatory salmon.
Adaptable design: As a tube fly, the Red Devil can be adapted to fish at different depths, and the hook can be replaced easily.
