AI/ML Engineer

At Carl we are building voice AI technology to transform how the automotive industry engages with customers. We are looking for an AI/ML Engineer to take full ownership of our AI pipeline, and build something new from the ground up.

Carl is founded by serial entrepreneurs who have successfully founded, built and exited companies in the automotive marketplace space. With Carl we are solving a set of persistent, high-impact problems across the industry - inefficient customer communication, missed appointments, and slow response times. Using AI, we help automotive businesses operate 24/7, starting with natural, human-like voice assistants.

We are backed by €1M in pre-seed funding from some of the top VCs and investors in Norway, Germany and the UK. You will be joining a small founding team with strong focus on product quality, speed, and applying state-of-the-art models to real-world challenges.

What you will do

This is a hands on role, where you will:

• Own our AI pipeline end-to-end: from speech-to-text, through LLM prompt engineering, to text-to-speech

• Evaluate and implement commercial models (or fine-tune our own if that’s the best option) to boost performance and reduce latency

• Build and maintain evaluation datasets to track quality and identify opportunities for improvement

• Rapidly test, implement, and iterate on LLM prompts and model configurations

• Continuously improve the product through reinforcement learning (with human feedback)

• Stay ahead of the curve: identify, research and apply the latest AI advancements as they emerge

• Work closely with our CTO to build a product that will be used by thousands of end-users

• Help shape the future AI team as the company scales

Who you are

You are a hands-on engineer, that is motivated by autonomy and impact. You are comfortable working fast, iterating often and owning your decisions.

You likely:

• Have a background in machine learning, AI, or adjacent fields

• Use AI tools (like Cursor, Co-Pilot, GPT-4) to increase your own output

• Are comfortable working in dynamic, fast-changing environments

• Enjoy personal projects and staying up to date with new tech

• Prefer flat organizations where your work has an immediate impact.

• Proficient in Python and/or Typescript
