“It all began in Florida back in 1983. Chuck Schuldiner, a 15 year old man, plays the guitar in his mom’s garage along with two friends: Kam Lee at drums/vox and Rick Rozz on the guitars. MANTAS was born! Shortly after the release of the demo, Chuck decided to change the name of the band to Death. Keeping the current line-up the three-some release the “Death By Metal” demo under the new moniker Death. Quickly following ip with their “Reign Of Terror” demo, Death was getting recognition in the small but growing underground Metal movement. This situation between both strong-willed types, Kam and Chuck, soon boiled over and they went their separate ways. Since Kam was no longer singing, Chuck eagerly took over as full-time vocalist and released a few rehearsal demos. These recordings are true and honest Metal. The music contained here in is not the polished commercial friendly band that Death became but rather the raw over-the-top innovative underground metal band that inspired me and many others to fight corporate music and “do it yourself”. This is how the underground began.”
