Norwegian Progressive-Power Metal band Communic released their fourth studio album, “The Bottom Deep” on July 22, 2011 via Nuclear Blast Records.
𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱:
“The Bottom Deep” is much darker than any of the previous releases from Communic. The progression of the album sees the group shift slightly from melodic overtones to an intimidating, yet tenebrous form of melancholic soul-searching. The songs have a grim atmosphere to match the perplexing concept of the album. The omnipresent, Machiavellian synths are more ominous, helping to underscore the profound aura of empirical tribulation, which complements the abstract restraints of “The Bottom Deep” superlatively.
Singer Oddleif Stensland has refashioned his vocals to a degree, conveying his philosophical lyrics in a more sentimental manner. His more gravelly vocal performance also showcases Stensland’s versatility and his development as a singer.
As a bonus, certain versions (like the German brown vinyl version) of the album features three covers, Overkill’s “In Union We Stand”, Nine Inch Nails “Hurt”, and Twisted Sister’s “The Fire Still Burns”.
