Scientist with Passion for Fermentation

Scientist to join the Fermentation Team in Xellia R&D, Oslo

We are looking for a new colleague to join Xellia Biotechnology Up-Stream R&D Department and contribute to the crucial process development for the manufacture of life-saving antibiotics.

You will work with the development of new strains and fermentation processes including scale-up and implementation into Xellia’s production facilities. Work will range from microtiter scale to production scale and you will be located in modern office- and lab-facilities in Oslo.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Development of production strains and fermentation processes

• Practical work using microorganisms; identification, characterization, biological assay determination, cultivation in microtiter plates, shake flasks and fermenters

• Plan, execute and evaluate fermentation experiments

• Deliver, report, and openly share results in alignment with project plans.

• Summarize findings in development reports and technical transfer documentation.

• Motivate and encourage team members.

• Promote cross-functional collaboration by actively exchanging results and experiences from development work.

Who are you going to work with
Xellia API R&D is organized in different departments located in Oslo, Copenhagen and Budapest with a total of about 45 employees. In Oslo we have four departments: Biotechnology Upstream Development, Biotechnology Downstream Development, Chemistry and Analytical Development counting around 30 employees. In addition to line functional work, we are organized in cross-functional project teams.

What do we expect from you:

You hold a PhD or MSc in Fermentation Technology, Microbiology or Biotechnology, or similar and have both theoretical and practical knowledge in microbiology and fermentation technology.

Furthermore, we hope you possess:

• Good understanding of cell functions and regulation of metabolic networks

• Experience in bioprocess development of antibiotics

• Strong collaboration skills and a passion for laboratory work

• Ability to identify problems and propose scientific and technical solutions for complex tasks

• Understand and extract knowledge from scientific literature and previous work experience

• Willingness to monitor fermentation processes during development outside normal business hours

• Preferably have knowledge of AI technologies and optimization of production processes.

• Availability for periodic travel to production sites during process implementation

• Fluency in English oral and written
