The Bark River V-44 Bowie is a large and impressive bowie knife. Truly a knife that will bring a smile to your face when you hold it. The designer of this knife became inspired by the famous V-44 bowie the Marine Raiders used during the Second World War.
The blade is made from A2 tool steel. A strong type of steel that would rather bend than break. You do, however, need to be careful with moisture and acids: A2 is not completely stainless. So clean it after use and occasionally add a drop of oil to keep this knife in great shape. The edge has been enhanced with a convex grind which you can maintain by stropping it.
The handle of the Bark River V-44 Bowie is made from canvas micarta. A strong and light-weight material, made from linen and synthetic resin. Feels comfortable in hand, even in wet or cold circumstances. On both sides the handle is flanked by a brass knife guard and pommel. The amount of manual labour involved is unimaginable for a (semi-)production knife such as this.
The Bark River V-44 Bowie comes with a luxurious leather belt sheath.
Bark River makes all of its knives almost completely by hand. As such each knife is unique. Especially when working with natural materials a knife can differ from the photographs. The knife you receive can therefore be subtly different from the product photos. The model and type of material, however, will always be the same.
