As part of Hydro's new strategic direction to diversify and explore new green growth, Hydro's Energy business area has established a new a “Batteries” business unit to grow and develop our current assets while also exploring new business opportunities within the battery value chain. Hydro has already entered promising partnerships with the Norwegian-Canadian battery company Corvus Energy and the Swedish battery company Northvolt, and we see further potential where we can leverage our capabilities in the battery value chain. 

The Technology team in Batteries is responsible for maturing and developing business opportunities in the battery value chain in collaboration with the business development unit. 

To cover this area comprehensively, we are hiring key positions where Head of Batteries Technology is one of them.

We are looking for person with broad experience and technical competence within business development, production and use-phase of batteries. You will be part of a highly competent and enthusiastic team and have the opportunity to influence Hydro’s battery agenda.

Area of Responsibility

As a Head of Batteries Technology, you will lead the Technology team and be part of the management team within the Batteries unit.

Your overall responsibility will be to work along several axes and be strongly connected to both business development and technology understanding and development. Main areas of responsibility are:

• Provide technological input and aspects into developing business opportunities for Hydro in the battery value chain
• Establish network with potential customers and link various needs in different segments and applications
• Establish network with relevant suppliers

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent in technology
• Broad experience in business development, technology development, production and use-phase of batteries, preferably in an international setting
• In-depth understanding of battery chemistry and battery value chain; good knowledge of production processes and manufacturing; and understanding of connection between technology and customer needs
• Experience from working towards state administration/governments from an industrial perspective is an advantage
• International mindset, mobility, flexibility and eagerness to work with both domestic and international (Europe) projects is an advantage
• Fluent English, both oral and written is required. Knowledge of Norwegian is an advantage
