Research Infrastructure Coordinator

A permanent position as a Research Infrastructure Coordinator at Micro and Nanotechnology Laboratory (MiNaLab) is available. The position is affiliated with the Semiconductor Physics Section at the Department of Physics/ Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology that is responsible for the operation of MiNaLab. The position is based on external funding and is available from Fall 2020. External funding through the NorFab III project that is running until 13.12.2023.

MiNaLab is an advanced research infrastructure and is among the largest single experimental facilities at UiO, MiNaLab is operated in partnership with SINTEF, and is a partner in the national infrastructure project Norwegian Micro- and Nanofabrication Facility (NorFab), partly funded by the Research Council of Norway.

Research and education at the UiO part of MiNaLab (UiO-MiNaLab) combines material science, micro and nano-technology for applications in Electronics, Energy and Live Sciences. These activities are carried out both by the Semiconductor Physics Section itself and by external - academic and industrial - users of the lab. To conduct the activity, UiO-MiNaLab is equipped with more than 40 advanced instruments with an investment cost in the range of 100 MNOK. Currently, the UiO-MiNaLab staff comprises a full-time Lab Manager, 3 full-time Engineers, and a 25% of the full-time Administrative Officer.

With the help of the Coordinator position, our goal is to further increase MiNaLab user base by promoting cross-disciplinary cooperation and involving a broader range of the research organizations and relevant industries from the technological, energy and life science sectors.  The key function for the appointed candidate will be twofold: (i) to lead the work to broaden the MiNaLab collaboration with external users and (ii) to participate in the development of new processes in cooperation with the users.

In further details the responsibilities will include:

• attracting R&D partners for collaborative projects from academia and industry, nationally and internationally;
• developing technology and processes at the UiO-MiNaLab with focus on innovations;
• assisting in experiments for external users
• outreach activity towards general public

The position will be an integral part in the UiO-MiNaLab activities together with the rest of the UiO-MiNaLab staff and the scientific staff at the Semiconductor Physics Section. The Coordinator/Researcher (present position) will report to the UiO-MiNaLab Lab Manager.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research and innovation faculty. Candidates for this position will be selected in accordance with this, and are expected to be in the upper segment of their class.

The successful candidate must have:

• PhD degree within natural sciences or engineering. Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Only applicants with an approved doctoral thesis and public defence are eligible for appointment.
• Experience from industry or industry-related research organizations.
• Excellent communication skills with superior Norwegian and fluent English.

Desirable qualities:

• Practical, hands-on experience in the fields relevant to the UiO-MiNaLab infrastructure.
• Experience in research and innovation projects.
• Personal skills: outgoing, resourceful and positive-minded for cross-disciplinary collaborations.
