Project Controller with financial management of Drilling Projects

The Project Financial Controller has overall responsibility for the financial management of assigned Drilling Project(s).

This role provides financial support to the Project Manager (PM) and Business Unit Controller by driving project financial performance, integrity of accounting records, financial reporting, risks management, compliance with policies and procedures, financial contract compliance, and coordination and collaboration with the Financial HUB among other cross-functional disciplines.

The project(s) will typically be $10-$100M each, and this position may have 10+ projects being managed at any given time depending on the needs of the business.

Main responsibilities and tasks

• Overall, manages project financials to support the Project Managers (PM’s)
• Manages project cash-flow
• Provide financial guidance, analytics and recommendations for addressing commercial financial Terms and Conditions, problem areas, adverse trends, and risks. Liquidated damages, late deliveries and hour overruns
• Provide financial support as needed for quotations of additional work phases to the customer or vendor POs changes and impacts to the project financials.
• Full understanding of the financial contractual requirements and responsibilities for assigned projects/contracts
• Provides financial guidance for the SAP project work breakdown structure (WBS) as owned by the PMO.
• Reports monthly and quarterly project financial status (actuals vs forecasts) to the PM and others in a timely manner
• Supports the Management of Change (MOC) process by identifying financial impacts of scope changes (impact on cost, revenue, schedule and quality).
• Highlight trends on cost inflation and identifies opportunities to save/reduce spend within the project
• Assist the PM in training project team members to interpret and comprehend financial statements and principles, coach them regarding key business segment drivers, answer inquiries regarding financial assets, recommend policies, and advise and council line management.
• Coordination with the Project Finance HUB who performs transactional finance tasks on behalf of the Project
• Engages with Hub Tax & Stat teams to identify challenges with the project and statutory accounts.

Qualifications & personal attributes

• Master Degree in accounting or finance, preferred
• Authorized Accountants, preferred
• Minimum 5 years’ Accounting Experience - Manufacturing / Engineering / Construction based
• Strong influencing, partnering & communication skills
• English Language excellence, written and verbal. Norwegian fluency is an advantage
• Engineering, Project, Construction (EPC) Project Finance experience/knowledge
• Global Company experience
• Knowledge & experience using SAP is highly advantageous and experience with Ecosys, Primavera is helpful
• Proficient with Microsoft Office software – especially Excel
• Must be able to work effectively in a heavily matrixed environment requiring flexibility, clear communication, tolerance for cultural and organizational change, and the ability to deliver to tight and conflicting deadlines.

This position reports to the Business Unit Controller with Operational reporting to PM, and is a permanent staff position based at Kristiansand.
