Apparel Designer - Norrøna Sport AS
The RD&D department consist of approximately 30 employees from 8 different countries. We believe in a broad knowledge base, meaning that you will work with all product categories and genders, including accessories and Junior collections.
We are an efficient design team, so your contribution will have an important impact for the future developments. In the RD&D team everyone is equally important regardless of role. The diversity of who we are, our backgrounds and passion is what makes us strong as a team. At Norrøna, we produce prototypes of nearly all our developments in our studio with state of the art equipment.
Areas of responsibility:
Advanced / Long-term Development (AD)
- Be an important driver in the AD process by delivering creative ideas & solutions on both detail and conceptual levels based on design briefs
- Plan for dedicated research time
- Hand over clear instructions to product specialists and product technicians
- Work together with the AD Material developer to tie the right materials to the right products
- Work closely with colleagues to develop testable prototypes in order to prove the concepts and ideas
- Manage the AD process timeline
- Collect and review feedback from testers and ambassadors
- Present concepts and prototypes at our AD stage gates
Inline
- Based on design briefs, sketch the seasonal designs and organize review sessions
- Hand over sketches and initial BOM to peers
- Take responsibility to implement standard solutions
- Be an active part of prototype evaluations
- Be an active driver of problem solving, together with the product team
- Responsible to coordinate the design across all products in a given collection
Color process
- Plan with the rest of the design team the seasons color process, following our corporate timeline
- Generate color stories for new and relaunched concepts
- Coordinate the entire color palette collection, concept and product level
- Plan and execute the coloring of new and carry-over styles
- Host the color process stage gates and present color ideas
- Color up the products on sketches and in BOMs
- Generate lab-dip requests
General responsibility
- Stay up-to-date regarding industry trends and continuously evolving needs from our users and ambassadors
- Manage the day-to-day tasks with support from Design Assistant
- Be an active driver in departmental projects
- Execute fast-tracked design and developments
- Collaborate closely with other Designers to create and bring new and better toolbox solutions that benefit the brand (such as new technologies, construction techniques, features, etc.)
- Some travel is to be expected
Qualifications
- Fashion design degree
- Minimum 5 years work experience as a designer
- Work experiences from other technical outdoor companies is a plus
- Great communication and presentation skills
- Basic understanding of pattern construction and manufacturing
- Excellent English communication skills, verbal and written
- Great skills in both creating technical drawings in Corel Designer (or similar) and be able to communicate ideas through hand drawings
- Used to work with a PLM system
