Commercial Manager - temporary position

The ship intelligence era brings us to an age where ships are integrated into larger operations. Owners and operators will expect to have total awareness and control in this area to optimise asset utilisation, and ultimately, their wider operations. We are pushing the boundaries of ship technology by harnessing the power of data in order to deliver through life asset optimisation. Our model to sense, acquire, transfer, analyse and act (SATAA) applies to both onboard and onshore elements.

An opportunity has arisen within the Commercial Team as a Commercial Manager to support the Ship Intelligence product sales. Reporting to the Head of Commercial and Business Development, you will provide commercial advice within a cross-functional team serving a wide range of international customers.

The role will be based in Ålesund and is a temporary position to end of January 2020.

Key responsibilities

• Advise, negotiate and draft terms and conditions with customers in Ship Intelligence product sales
• Identify potential commercial risks and liabilities inherent in a range of different types of agreements
• Propose and negotiate amendments to minimise or mitigate risk
• Manage disputes in relation to contractual issues and claims in a timely manner
• Drive compliance with company policy on the use of advisors, anti-bribery and export control compliance
• Assist in developing commercial awareness and training of contracting principles
• Where required, act as a point of contact and liaise with treasury for bank guarantees and other payment securities

Qualifications and experience: (We encourage you to apply even if not all the qualifications are met)

• Educated to degree level or equivalent in relevant discipline
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English
• Experience in commercial negotiations
• Demonstrated knowledge of contract law and principles
• Ability to work collaboratively with managers and the sales team
• Strong planning and organisational skills
• International experience and/or experience working across geographical and cultural boundaries would be advantageous
• Sound business judgment and analytical ability necessary to achieve effective solutions
