Jotun sees untapped potential for innovations in the Performance Coatings segment and will therefore strengthen the R&D organization to realize this potential. The Senior Surface Scientist will work in the central R&D laboratory in Sandefjord, Norway, in a cross functional team of scientists, engineers and technicians focused on developing coating based solutions for surface protection and functionalization.

Our new Senior Surface Scientist will be central in the development of next generation solutions that help our customers to increase the efficiency and the green profile of their assets.

Tasks

Identify target surface properties (e.g. mechanical, structural, chemical) to achieve target surface effects, e.g. optimized hydrodynamic effectiveness
Initiate, lead and contribute to cross-functional R&D projects
Responsible for establishing surface characterization and test methodology
Build network with external partners
Build and transfer competence internally
Communicate to the public (research articles, conference contributions)
Contribute professionally, internally and externally, to ensure that the overall goals of the R&D department are achieved

Qualifications

PhD in the area of surface science/engineering or Fluid dynamics
5 years of relevant postgraduate experience
Relevant experience can compensate for formal education
Innovative, engineering mindset
Language: English required, Norwegian nice to have
