Primary Metal Technology is responsible for research and development related to primary production of aluminium. Hydro is world leader within aluminium production technology and has high ambitions for further research and innovation. Together with 132 colleagues in the technology organization our graduates will take part in developing next generation smelter technology and provide operational support to Hydro's smelters in Norway and abroad. At the technology center in Årdal, we have full-scale testing facilities as well as laboratories where we can bring ideas, theory and academic knowledge into technological solutions.

Primary metal production is a complex process and a broad span in competence is needed in order to reach our ambitious low energy and "green" targets. We look for graduates that can strengthen competence and capability in the technology organization.

Technology development - an entrance gate to an international career in Hydro!

Area of Responsibility

Graduates will belong to one of the following disciplines: Electrolysis, Cell Design, Process Control, or Anode Production and take part in:

  • Initiation, planning and execution of technology development projects.
  • Optimization, technology implementation and support to Hydro's operations worldwide.
  • Development and deliveries of new technology to Hydro’s future investment projects.

Qualifications

  • PhD or Master's degree within relevant areas such as: Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Light Metal Production, Cybernetics, Software development, Process Control, Physics, Modelling, Metallurgy, Material science
  • Maximum 2 years of work experience after graduation
  • Analytical mindset with good academic results
  • Well organised and structured
  • Results oriented with strong problem solving skills and an ability to define and achieve targets
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team
  • Good communication, cooperation and interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in English, any additional language is an asset
