Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Bioinformatics/Computational Genomics

We are seeking to fill a vacant full-time postdoctoral  position for three years. The advent of next-generation sequencing technologies has enabled a rapid identification of alterations in cancer genomes, allowing researchers to investigate large-scale genome events such as chromosomal lesions and copy-number variations, as well as small-scale aberrations represented by point mutations, small insertions and deletions. Several recent studies have implicated the packaging and higher-order organization of the nuclear genome as an important part of tumorigenesis. This encompasses both the accessibility of DNA through chromatin architecture and chromatin modifications, as well as the three-dimensional organization of chromosomes within the nucleus.

The successful candidate will work in a team of bioinformaticians to assess the importance of prevailing models of genomic organization to explain mechanistic aspects of somatic mutations and mutation signatures in cancer at different levels of resolution. The project will collaborate with scientists working in close collaboration with The Norwegian Cancer Genomics Consortium (NCGC). The computational group also is developing relevant functionality within a published computational framework termed The Genomic HyperBrowser. Ongoing national and international collaborations with wet-lab and modeling groups may also be utilized in the project.

Applicants are expected to have strong data analysis and software development skills (i.e. experience with Python and R), as well as documented experience with bioinformatics and/or data analysis in computational genomics. A basic understanding of mutation research, cancer genomics, and chromatin biology, and the ability to develop novel hypotheses within this area, is of great benefit. Applicants must have a doctoral degree in computational science, e.g. computer science, statistics, bioinformatics or a related field with documented knowledge relevant for the position as described above. Applicants with competence within statistics/machine learning, mathematical modeling and/or knowledge in molecular dynamics models will be preferred.

The application should be accompanied by a CV as well as certified copies of diplomas and other relevant documentation of education. Names, addresses and contact information of three references are required. By applying to the position, it is accepted that we perform a background check on selected items from the CV or exams and certificates.??
