NILU’s department for Atmospheric and Climate Research is considering strengthening its capacity through recruitment of 1-2 scientists in permanent positions. The
positions will support research activities related to atmospheric transport of pollutants, air quality, volcanic ash, radionuclides and greenhouse gases.

We seek persons with expertise in one or more of the following areas: satellite remote sensing (algorithm development, cal-val); atmospheric transport modelling
(FLEXPART) or database development; and data management related to atmospheric composition data. The position will be linked to ongoing projects, but in the
long run, there will be flexibility with respect to the successful candidate pursuing their own research opportunities.

The work description of the individual positions will be defined more precisely after considering the expertise of the individual applicants, and how they can meet
our needs and strategic goals. As NILU is a non-governmental applied research foundation, the successful candidates are expected to contribute in project
acquisition and to support the needs for undertaking various externally funded projects. We would like to highlight that we are interested in applications
both from well-established senior scientists as well as promising younger scientist at post-doc level.

The ATMOS department of NILU has about 30 employees and receives research funding from competitive calls under the Norwegian Research Council, the European
Commission Framework Programmes, the European Space Agency and other agencies and frameworks. Our research was ranked top amongst Norwegian institutions in
the Norwegian Earth Science Evaluation in 2011. NILU is also involved in international programmes and conventions like the European Monitoring and
Evaluation Programme (EMEP), and the WMO Global Atmosphere Watch, and focuses on using observations and models to assess atmospheric composition change.

We seek candidates with good communication skills and a willingness to take responsibility. Ability to work in a team will be expected. The position is located at our main office at Kjeller, just outside Oslo. We have extensive collaboration with national and international research institutes and universities. Travel activities are to be expected as part of the work. NILU offers competitive benefits, including group life-/accident insurance and pension.

Further details about NILU can be found at www.nilu.no
