The Department of Computer Science offers three bachelor’s degree programmes and a master’s degree programme, in addition to research and development activities. The department has approximately 70 staff members and 800 students.

There are currently several research groups at the Computer Science department (link here). We are also expecting to set up a new group on Applied Artificial Intelligence.

The faculty aims to establish a PhD-program with a branch in Digital Engineering, and a new multi-disciplinary Master’s program. This is in conjunction with HIOAs full accreditation as University and the establishment of a research and development collaboration between HiOA and the Simula Research Laboratory.

The Department of Computer Science has a vacancy for a professor/associate professor in Computer Science specializing in Applied Artificial Intelligence.

We are looking for a candidate with a talent and a passion for teaching, research and innovation. Candidates will be expected to have conducted extensive research in the field of Applied Artificial Intelligence and other relevant fields such as machine learning, evolutionary computation, reinforcement learning, or evolutionary robotics. The research should be reflected in an extensive publication list and high impact.

Candidates will be expected to actively strengthen and shape the academic and research work at the department and the university college's research community in general, including interdisciplinary work across departments at the Faculty for Technology, Arts Design and with other faculties at HiOA.

The candidate will be responsible for securing external funding. Experience with applying for NFR, EU, or similar grants is an advantage.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Leading the application of external funding for research in Applied Artificial Intelligence and related fields.
  • Initiating and conducting research within Applied Artificial Intelligence.
  • Communicating and disseminating research results for both academic and lay audiences.
  • Strengthening the academic and research work in Applied Artificial Intelligence and related fields.
  • Planning, developing and delivering courses at PhD, Master and Bachelor level, including teaching, supervision, and assessment.
  • Actively contributing to the development of high quality education.
  • Actively contributing to the development of the department.
  • Performing some administrative tasks related to educational, research and innovation activities.

Qualifications

The required qualifications for the positions are as follows:

  • PhD in computer science, computer engineering, artificial intelligence, data science, mathematics or related fields
  • documented research work and publications within the field of applied artificial intelligence
  • experience of initiating and managing research projects, including a solid track record of securing external funding for research
  • experience from international and interdisciplinary research collaboration
  • experience in teaching and supervision in higher education
  • Fluency in English is expected. The candidate is expected to acquire a working command of Norwegian within three years of being appointed.

Candidates who have no relevant qualifications in pedagogy at the time of appointment must commit themselves to complete HiOA’s programme for basic pedagogical competence (15 ECTS credits) within two years.

Trial lecture will be required in connection with a personal interview.

  • experience with one or more deep learning platforms (e.g. Tensorflow, Caffe, Keras, Theano, Torch,) and applications of reinforcement learning, evolutionary robotics, machine learning, artificial life/living Technology

Remuneration

Salary is set in accordance with the Norwegian State Salary Scale, job code 1013 Professor NOK696 500-882 500 or job code 1011 Associate Professor (førsteamanuensis) NOK 517 300-649 800. A higher salary may be considered for specially qualified candidates. By law 2% of the salary is deducted as to the State Pension Fund.

  • a text (up to 2 pages) outlining the candidate’s relevant pedagogical experience and plans for pedagogical activity and development in the position (“teaching statement”)
  • a text (up to 2 pages) outlining the candidate’s relevant research and plans for research activity in the position (“research statement”)
  • other relevant documentation
